Nice to see some new posts in this thread at last! =D Congrats on the opening, Bianca! I'm a little bit tempted to put off writing my essay try entering the STC again.

In chronological order, thank you, and congratulations! I thought your entry was good. Got the plot moving a bit more, which we really needed at this point -- this is either going to turn into a two-week contest, or be really heavily end-weighted in terms of plot. (Both of which are entirely plausible and precedented.)

Congratulations on your first win, how exciting! Scheff so glad to see you in this week Bianca I love love your beginning ♥ I meant to say that earlier this week, I'm an airhead right now, too much going on irl. I assumed it was going to be a heavily weighted ending when I wrote my bit; I just sort of skipped most of the days lol. La la la, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th gone...oh look it's NYE. I figured the Storyteller would have told us by now if it was going to be two weeks so I tried to move us to the end. EDIT: And to whoever asked, the morning update goes live between 12-1 usually, the afternoon one varies a lot more. On Fridays I've seen it as late as near 10pm, as early as 5pm. Weekdays to be honest I am not sure, I am not home many weekday evenings right now.

Thank you all for the congrats, I'm learning a great deal by watching. ^_^
I liked the way you made the story flow over a couple of days with your prose, Aged! It was a lot of fun to read, and I really saw how you're supposed to progress a story!
May I ask how you guys pace yourself for entries? I typed my previous submissions directly into the entry box for Storytelling and then copied them over into a Word doc so I could look over them before they were submitted. Is the length usually 1.5-2 pages?

Oh, that makes sense. I should probably refrain from using Word then. I type poetry into Notepad because it's easier to see line breaks, but it's hard to type paragraphs in Notepad. Is TextEdit exclusive to Mac's? I have Windows, so I don't think I can get the program on my computer?

Geebus Mel, I was staring at the thread going "Who the heck is Susie Derkins?!" lol. EDIT: Oh and congrats, nice ending! Dea, I actually type into Word directly. Having lost entries to the horror that is a browser crash, I'm a believer. There are occasionally a formatting issue where my version of word doesn't agree with my browser so I get weird boxes instead of punctuation, but that's not typical. Page count doesn't help me - I usually go by word count. Most of my entries are between 600=800 words unless I'm writing an ending, which tend to be longer. And I have a confession, I kind of felt like I was cheating skipping days, but I just did not see a way to progress the story enough without writing a book and get us back to the beginning In media res is a really cool story technique but it also sort of traps us because we had to get back to that point in either my entry or Mel's. I figured it would be easier to set up an ending if I did it in mine than if it had to wait until the ending. I'd been watching the story all week and knew we were heading there but I never saw a better point to do it, so it sort of just had to be imo.

Congrats everyone! I have to say, it was fun starting this week and seeing what happened... (I actually intended the main character to be a boy, but that's what happens when you write your part entirely in first person...)
As for length, this was the only time I used notepad because the computer I was using didn't have Work installed on it. But normally I write 1 page on Word. That seems to work for me unless it's an intense story or an ending.

Hi, I'm late to the party. I was talking about the Storytelling with somebody, and I checked back here and found the message from the current judge re: accepting shorter entries in order to gain more submissions from a wider range of writers. Can I just say that, Diana and Reve, you guys make such good, eloquent points that you've elaborated everything that was on my mind and more, and lame as it sounds I was really touched by just how much the contest meant to you. I'm going to guess that the current judge does read this thread as his/her post was made in direct response to sombody's remark here -- therefore, I wonder if the judge (or I should say you, if you're reading) will consider forwarding to the rest of TNT the idea of an avatar for the Storytelling. If getting new writers is mainly what the STC is looking for now, an avatar is the way to go. It has kept the NT alive and in good quality all these years. For an avatar reward, now there will be an consistent influx of entries from users all over, so we won't need to worry about the contest becoming dependent on individuals of a select group, and the best part is that with entries consistently coming as people are motivated by the reward of an exclusive avatar, the well-being of the story itself becomes a priority again. You don't need to worry about people becoming discouraged from entering any more -- they will keep on trying as we did when we first started storytelling, because they will want that avatar. I miss the inspiration that used to run through this thread too, and maybe I'm just looking for a reason to enter again. Either way, that's just what's been on my mind. A different approach to saving the STC that I think, from the example of the NT, will make things even better for both you and us, while establishing the STC as a completely creativity-based competition once more.
