I doubt I've showed you guys some of the things in terms of sugeries I've had done, but I think it's time that I did. myweb.tiscali.co.uk/jerrywhitney/Images/ilizside.jpgAn Ilizarov device. Used to cure crooked feet in arms. only place where it is done is in baltimore MD care of dr. herzenburg and dr. paley I had one of these suckers on my leg at three years of age. Had it via january-june. In the decive there is a pin that goes STRAIGHT THROUGH YOUR LEG. I still have a dent in it to this day. (left foot for your curiosity) This also complicates buying shoes, as my feet are dramically different in size. Just though you'd all be semi interested.

Oooh...that doesn't sound very pleasant. This Friday I have to have surgery on both big toes, so I probably won't be able to wear shoes until about Wedensday, which removes me from P.E. Monday and Tuesday, and probably Wedensday as well since I'll still be getting used to it. That sounds good, but still, the fact that I have to have surgery scares me... It all started about a year ago...a long story, and I don't feel like typing it all tonight. Maybe tomorrow...

I go to school with someone who has this huge problem with his leg. I think he's had it since birth, and his leg is very fragile. He's constantly having surgeries and everything, and I think he's had that thing on his leg before.

There's one sohpmore in my school disctric who has to have that on almost every other year b/c of his foot. the only other option is to have it amputated... If pain is weakness leaving the body, and sufering builds character I'm probably taller than a sky scraper.

My surgery was today...it went pretty well, as far as I am concerned. It helped that they had a little tv for me to watch, and the Simpsons just HAPPENED to be on! Of course, it hurt like hell when they had to numb it...but after that it was smooth sailing. The right one kind of hurts where he gave the shot, but that's it. He even showed me the looooooooooooooooooooong pieces of nail that they had clipped out from the root. It was beautiful ;D

I've got a kinda funny hospitalish story... my friend was really, really sick, and she had to get a biopsi (her 3rd iv out of 4) and when they were using the gas that makes her go to sleep, the doctor asked her, "Do you have any pets?" "Yes." "What are they?" "2 rabbits, 3 turtles..." Then she fell asleep and said 3 turtles the whole time. Fwee, and I wasted a day of my life having blood poisoning. I went to one hospital, not a children's one, and they took me the first day. When I came back the second day, I WAITED 2 HOURS AND THEY WOULDN'T TAKE ME! So I had to go to the children's one. I'm so tinkled at that first hospital! RAWR! It was all better in a day...

Ouch, Megz, that looks painful...One of my grandfathers had polio and had to have his ankles pinned so he could walk. What was the story behind your surgery, Smiley? My older sister had to have surgery on one foot for something wrong with her toenail...it was growing wrong...is that what happened to you? I've never had surgery...I don't want to, either. One of my unreasonable fears is taking too many drugs (the legal kind)--I'd be terrified until I woke up that they'd accidentally give me too much anaesthesia or something. Once I had to stay in the hospital for a few days. They decided to put me on an IV to give me antibiotics. That was fine. What wasn't so fine was when the nurse burst one of the veins in my hand trying to insert the needle, so then she had to try *another* vein. Beh. I don't like hospitals...although their food is a lot better than the school's...

What was the story behind your surgery, Smiley? My older sister had to have surgery on one foot for something wrong with her toenail...it was growing wrong...is that what happened to you? No...here goes: About a year ago, on March 17 (St. Paddy's Day) I was having a wonderful meal of corn beef and cabbage with my family, since I am Irish. That has absolutely nothing to do with the story. Anyway, when I got home I noticed that my big toenail had pus protruding from the side. Beautiful sight, really gorgeous. My mom told me to soak it in warm water. I filled up a bowl of tap, put it in the microwave, and removed it when it went "BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP". I started my way towards the living room, when my clumsy hands dropped the bowl (which thankfully DID NOT BREAK) and the water spilled everywhere. I slipped and hit my head on the table leg. It began to bleed, so mom rushed me to the emergency room at my plea. They happened to be very busy and only had one doctor, so I looked at the green hairstyles of the other patients for THREE WHOLE HOURS. It must have been about midnight by this time, the beginning of Monday morning. Finally I was called back, but of course the wound had scabbed up and there was nothing that needed to be done to it. Instead she worked on my toe. So I got home about 2 o'clock in the morning, and fell asleep instantly. I must have gotten a total of four hours of sleep. Good thing that it was pajama day, though! I realized that after about ten minutes, so I went to sleep again and woke up ten minutes before the bus came. That sure was lucky! In about a month, it was all healed! I was so relieved, until about two months ago... It came back, on the other toe. My foot doctor said that if I NEVER wanted to have it again, then he should do surgery. I agreed... So now, NO MORE INGROWN TOENAILS FOR SMILEY! YAY! It hurt, but it was worth it. They got in there and clipped off both sides of the root on both toes. Good thing they are covered up in bandages...ick! ;D
