Bonus Points: If it makes no sense at all in the story Triple Bonus: If you use all three. Quad Bonus: If you use all three AT THE SAME TIME. So anyway this is the NaNo Dares board and yes it is August but we were talking about it on the bloids and it is never too early to stock up on DARES EDIT: Another one. Dare: Have a plastic pink flamingo in your story at some point. Bonus Points: The flamingo can speak. Triple: He/She is a major character despite being plastic.

Dare: Make the big bad villain/antagonist of the story dress up... in ugly, eye-searingly colorful clothes. Bonus: If it's a mix of clown clothes and hawaiian shirts.
Dare: Have one of your characters make a comment on how an attack is "super effective". Double Dare: If the attacker shouts out their attack which is followed by that remark from a character.
Dare: Make the character have a vision of an angel coming from the sky basking in a glowing light, and give a prophetic and deep message to the character. Bonus: If this has nothing to do with the story or what happens next whatsoever. Bonus 2: If the character is completely unaffected by this event and moves on as if nothing happened.

Dare: Make your protagonist as ugly as possible for no reason. Bonus: If no one cares.
Dare: Reference tropes in your story by name.
Dare: Do an entire chapter in your book in verse. Bonus: If it's in song.

Orrrr we could use the handy-dandy "Move Posts!" feature! XD So Killix, Candy, decide this in some equitable way. GLQ-- ... Don't you mean an entire chapter in verse? Because I'm pretty sure all our chapters are going to be in prose otherwise. >_> Some dares from last year that I feel I must include: Dare: Have one character who speaks entirely in iambic pentameter. -Bonus: If they speak only in couplets -Double Bonus: If they speak only in sonnets (These can be spread over several lines of dialogue). -Triple Bonus: If some other character joins in on the sonnets. Dare: Reference another NTWFer's NaNo in your own. Bonus Points: if you have one of your characters reading that NaNo. Triple Points: if the author of said book shows up as an NTWFer cameo. Dare: Include a delicate crystal trinket somewhere in the story. Have it glow with untold power, be engraved with intricate magical runes, be stored in a prominent place of honor, and always be referred to in capital letters (as in, The Crystal of Light.) Write a lengthy description of it. Have one or more characters stop to admire it, and possibly feel an immediate magical connection to it. In other words, set it up as if it's going to be a major plot device. Then have somebody drop it, shattering it into a million pieces. Oops. Bonus points if everyone just shrugs it off and moves on, and the incident is never brought up again. Ah well, powerful magical artifacts are a dime a dozen these days. Triple points if the story isn't fantasy.

I'm expecting everyone to do their entire NaNos in verse, after all. *Fixes.* ...Hey, there's an idea. Dare: Do your entire NaNo in verse.

Ooh, Zylaa, thanks for bringing up those old dares. xD ...I actually think I can work all three of the dares in your post into my story this year pretty easily. Yoinking 'em.
...although this means that I'll need to brush up on my iambic pentameter sometime before next month. >.> *would rather not resort to using only two-syllable words if at all possible yes please thanks*

A Dare devised by Celestial and me today:
Dare: Winged velociraptors attack your protagonist. Bonus: If your story has been utterly serious up until now. Double Bonus: If there is actually a logical in-story explanation for the appearance of said velociraptors.

Double Bonus: If there is actually a logical in-story explanation for the appearance of said velociraptors. You know what. I could totally do this. =D I could keep it serious, too. It could be a relevant plot point, even. Whee!

Just remembered this from last year and slightly modified it: Dare: Reference NTWF NaNoers in your NaNo. Bonus: If they're part of the plot. Triple Bonus: You pick which ones to include based on what they'd give you if you put them in. :3 ...I think I'll post a link to last year's dares,, just because. =D

I haven't done much in the way of dares before, but this board needs some love, so I'll try my hand at it.
Dare: Include a talking cat. Bonus: If none of the other characters think it's odd that the cat can talk. Double Bonus: If that cat is the one confused by why everyone can understand them.
Dare: Have a piece of cutlery become an important plot point. Bonus: It's not a spork. Double bonus: It's a spife!
Dare: Have a mysterious character who always hides some part of their identity, making readers believe there is something very sinister going on. Bonus: The secret is revealed and there is nothing sinister about them. Everyone goes on like normal.
Dare: Get anagrams of your characters' names and incorporate them into the story.
